June in L.A.

"So...what have you been doing?"
I've been getting that question sooooo much that I've decided to blog about it to put everyone's inquiries to rest.

I've been back in LA for the past two weeks. The first entire week was dedicated to spending time with my family. Everyday, I played with my little nephew Aaron. He's 2 1/2 years old and is sooooo HILARIOUSLY BRIGHT. He loves to narrate, and he understands and speaks "Chinglish" (that's both Chinese and English) and LOTS of it. He is constantly talking, laughing, and making all of us laugh.

The first whole week, actually being able to rest really threw off my body, and I ended up waking up very late and taking naps. Then the pattern of staying up until the wee hours of the night began. I'm still in the process of trying to break this cycle. One strange night, I stayed up and went to bed at 6 a.m. And, the scary part is that it felt REALLY good. I'm not kidding. I was starting to feel as if I were half-vampire.

The truth is...there are less distractions during the night and staying up late at night means that I am more able to focus and get things done. Although, I am on "vacation" at this time, being part of the school's administration team means that I am still working and supporting them during my time off. Frequent emails are still received and require correspondence to help the school "trouble-shoot" questions regarding supplies, budget, admissions, resources, etc. In addition, whenever I come home, a large box of mail awaits me. Papers need to be sorted, paperwork done, and appointments made. Just part of my homecoming routine. Summers in LA also marks the start of the wild goose chase of getting all the documents ready to renew the visa so that I can legally be in Colombia. ...but, enough of that...

So much of life around here is centered around food and the conversations you have while you are gathered together, eating.

The two questions my oldest sister always asks me:
1) Now where do you want to go?
2) What do you want to eat?

so good to hear from my brit'ish friend. i miss ya!

    yep, all our friends are:
    a) getting married
    b) already married
    c) having babies, which is just amazing.
    ...i'm really happy for them!

this doesn't quite count, but i did receive a marraige proposal two weeks ago from the 64 year old bus driver who drove the tour bus on our yellowstone/mt. rushmore trip. no joke. i thought he was a jolly, grandfatherly type person.
geez, people really shock & SURPRISE me sometimes.
